I’ve been on Medium since August 2022.

And honestly, it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made.

Why did I start writing on Medium?

Good question. Back then, I think I was just looking for a new side hustle. I had been subscribed to a few Medium writers and I was getting daily e-mails of people who were successful on the platform.

I actually got started without a clear purpose or target in mind. I guess I just wanted to test out the platform and see where it would bring me.

So, on August 18, 2022 I wrote my very first article:

As you can see from the screenshot above, I have earned some money with those articles.

However, back then — the earnings were 0. ZERO.

This revenue came much, much later (about 6 months) — because you first need to become eligible to join Medium’s Partner Program.

What made me keep going?

I wasn’t earning anything.

The initial reason why I started was to earn money.

However, I quickly discovered that “just writing my heart out”, proved to be much more valuable to me, than just the focus on earning cash.

Writing gave me a sense of purpose. Of direction. Of clarity. Of mental focus.

By putting my thoughts on paper like this, it allowed me to reflect on my life, my choices and my hustles.

Some articles really, really opened my mind. Often, while writing and doing research, I came up with an idea for a new articles. This is how you keep going and growing.

Writing really challenges AND CHANGES you. I can (and do) recommend it to anyone. Self reflection is one of the key elements of growth.

Journey to 200 Articles

If I compare this to other writers, 200 articles isn’t really that much.

I see writers publishing content every single day. Well, sadly I haven’t got the time for that. I write daily, but I don’t publish a finished post daily. It can be quite time intensive.

Anyhow, I think 200 articles is a nice accomplishment. It’s about 2 articles a week since I’ve started, which is quite good IMO.

New new new, more more more!

You know what sucks a bit though?

There have been weeks where I barely published anything. And it’s crazy to see how my “views, reads, and revenue” drops.

If I think about this, it saddens me a little bit. Not the fact that I’m earning less, but that that’s how society works these days.

It’s the same for YouTube. As you may know, I’m running a few YouTube channels (read about it here), and if I don’t post any new videos, my views & revenue drop like crazy. Technology, people & society are constantly focused on “new new new” and “more more more”.

In a way I can understand it, but still. It kind of shows that people are never satisfied with what they have AND that society is contributing to this as well.

So, how much have I earned?

I won’t keep you wondering any longer.

I’ve earned around $2k with Medium so far.

Is this good? Is this bad?

Honestly, at this point it doesn’t matter that much to me anymore.

As I’ve written above, Medium is become more of a way to self-reflect, and just share stories with you guys.

Sure, sometimes I add some affiliate links to articles, to share products that I use myself. But why not? You often benefit from it as well, because many of these links get you a free trials or discounts. So it’s a win-win either way.

Medium has opened the way to SO MUCH MORE!

As I share in my free e-book, Medium is the key to so much more.

Because whatever you want to do online, whatever business you want to started — You’ll always need content or knowledge.

And what better way to generate content or gain knowledge, than by writing?

Medium has enabled me to:

• Teach, Help & Mentor people
• Create YouTube channels
• Create & grow social media accounts
• And so much more.

The possibilities are endless.

So, if you’re looking to start a side-hustle — just start by writing! Write about whatever you want, and the rest will follow!

Top Articles Earnings Overview

Before finishing this article, I want to show you that more than 1/4th of my revenue comes from 1 single article.

This article just went off like crazy, I don’t know how and I don’t know why.

But this has been the key to my growth back then.

As you could see from the graph above, earnings have been declining ever since then.

Setting myself a challenge…

As I’m writing this article, I just got the idea to set myself a challenge.

I want to try & write a new viral article again. I’m going to be writing & posting more, to test & see the results.

I’m curious what would happen if I’d post something daily…

Conclusion

Joining & starting to write on Medium has been one of the best choices I’ve made.

What started out as an idea for “a new side hustle”, turned into so much more.

The key is not give up, keep on going, keep on writing, and the rest will come!
