How To Start with YouTube Automation in 2023 (FOR BEGINNERS)

YouTube automation

An Easy Step By Step Tutorial

There are a few ways to get started with YouTube Automation. I’ve written some articles about it on Medium.com, you can check them here:

And more here.

However, this article will describe a new method that I discovered, and possible even the best one so far!

We will create “How To”- channels.

“How To” — channels

Also called a “search based channel”, is a channel where you get views by making videos about subjects or questions, that people search for daily.

Some examples:

  1. How to lose weight quickly and effectively?
  2. How to start a successful blog from scratch?
  3. How to cook the perfect steak at home?
  4. How to apply flawless makeup for beginners?
  5. How to create a professional resume that stands out?
  6. How to grow vegetables in a small backyard?
  7. How to fix a leaking faucet in your kitchen?
  8. How to play popular songs on the guitar for beginners?
  9. How to meditate and reduce stress in daily life?
  10. How to use Adobe Photoshop for basic photo editing?
  11. How to invest in stocks for beginners?
  12. How to create a stunning website without coding?
  13. How to style short hair for a special occasion?
  14. How to make delicious homemade pizza from scratch?
  15. How to improve your public speaking skills and overcome nervousness?

More possible subjects:

TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Bitcoin, Kucoin, Metamask, Slack, Zoom, WooCommerce, Wix, Shopify, Facebook Ads, GoDaddy, WordPress, Elementor, YouTube, Windows 11, iPhone, Google Drive, Amazon, Etsy, Redbubble, Mailchimp, NordVPN, Mailgun, ActiveCampaign,……….

Why a How To — channel?

Overall, How To channels are:

  • Super cheap ($5 per video)
  • Don’t cost a lot of time to create (videos are only 1–2 mins)
  • No specific niche needed

In comparison to a ‘normal’ cash cow channel:

  • Higher creation cost: $50–$70 per video
  • Costs more time to create
  • Must be in the RIGHT niche

Now, don’t get me wrong here. The “old” (normal) method works as well, and might perhaps even be better in the long run, however it’s always good to explore new possibilities.

The DISADVANTGE of a channel like this is however that the videos are very short.

→ Shorter watch time = less revenue.

Example Channel

Channel analysis (via VidIQ.com):

  • Around 70k views per day
  • Let’s take an average RPM of $4 (=$4 per 1000 views)
  • 70k views x $4 = around $250-$300 PER DAY

So, even if we take the least amount of revenue, this channel is still making a minimum of $7500 PER MONTH!

Good opportunity, no?

Let’s do this ourselves!

  • Step 1: Creating your channel
  • Step 2: Find example channels / videos
  • Step 3: Make a list of videos that you want created
  • Step 4: Hire freelancers via Fiverr to create videos for you (template below)
  • Step 5: Upload as many videos as possible! Minimum 1 video per day, preferably even more!
  • Step 6: Keep repeating!

Topic research

You might be wondering: “how do I find channels like this?”

There are 2 methods you can use:

Method 1: Search bar

Go to the YouTube search bar and start typing “How to…” and then add one of the example topics from above (or anything else that you’re interested in).

Easy enough, right?

Method 2: Copy what works

My step by step approach:

Step 1: Make sure to install the VidIQ or TubeBuddy browser extensions (whatever you prefer. I prefer VidIQ).

Step 2: Use the search bar method to find existing HowTo channels.

Step 3: Check their videos, and copy the titles of their best performing videos to a list.

Perfect. You’ve got your list of topics.

Now it’s time to have the videos created.

Video creation outsourcing

There are a bunch of platforms out there where you can find freelancers, my preferred one is Fiverr.

On Fiverr, I’m going to create a job listing for “this job”.

I’m mostly interested in working with people from Philippines, Pakistan, India or Bangladesh, because they’re smart, hard-working and most importantly: affordable.

Create a brief (job posting):

I filled in the following example:

Full description below:

Hi

I am looking for someone who can do the voice over (NOT AI!) and video creation for 1-3 minute short YouTube videos.
It’s super important that you can do both and do your own voice over and video editing.

Scripts are not needed because I will give you examples of existing YouTube videos and you can just freestyle it.
The goal is to make these videos better.

Requirements:
– Voice over + short edit
– High quality videos
– Budget $2 per video
– Length of video: between 1 and 3 minutes
– 20 videos per week (recurring)
– Must be able to meet the deadlines
– Human voice over
– Editing can be done with stock footage or screen recording
– Example channels: (insert your example channels)

Please send me some examples of previous work you’ve done before.

Best regards,
Michiel

Post the job and wait for response. Negotiate.

Make sure to really check the samples they provide, see if it’s good enough.

Thumbnail creation

You’ve got a few options of the thumbnail creation

  1. You make it yourself via stock images in for example Canva.com
  2. You hire someone from Fiverr to do it for you
  3. You use AI generated images.

Up to you, but remember that thumbnails and titles are EXTREMELY important!

They are what make people click or skip your videos.

Uploading your videos

This is a bit related to the thumbnail creation.

During the upload process, it’s very important that you do your SEO right.

Here are a few tips:

Tip 1: Use a tool, like VidIQ that can help you. It will suggest areas of improvement, for example:

Screenshot of vidIQ

Tip 2: Hire an SEO guy that will upload the videos for you

Tip 3: Use a ChatGPT expert persona that will generate titles, descriptions and tags for you — for example:

ChatGPT screenshot

For this ChatGPT expert persona, you can use the following prompt:

You are an SEO expert, specialized in YouTube. Your job is to write YouTube video titles, descriptions and tags, with the purpose of getting as much clicks, subscribers and views as possible. You can think outside of the box. I will regularly provide you with info about which videos are doing well, and which videos are not — so you can learn & adjust as well. Remember, our main objective is getting views, subscribers and monetizing our channel. Let me know if you have any more questions or if this is clear to you.

And that’s it!

Make sure to be consistent and have patience.

Remember that it can take up to 6 months before a channel takes off, so be ready for that!

Best of luck!
