This is How Much I’m Earning with It
I’ve had quite a lot YouTube channels over the past few years. With some of them, I did really well and managed to earn nearly $25k!
I had some success, but I also failed (copyright issues, channels offline).
Failure is not bad. It incentivizes us to try again and do better (with lessons learned). And that’s what I did.
New channel
In September I started a new channel.
In the beginning I was doing script writing myself — with the help of ChatGPT — and outsourcing the voice over & editing.
Cost
Before we continue — A question that I often get is: “what does outsourcing cost?”
Of course, the total cost depends a bit on the type & amount of services you require. You can find everyone on Fiverr, but let me list them for you:
Prices PER video:
- $30 for 10 min long script
- $20–40 for narrator (NOT AI!)
- $30–40 for editor
- $10–15 for SEO
- $10–15 for management (uploading & scheduling)
- $5–10 for thumbnail creation

Total: +/- $120–140 per video
If you want 10 videos per month, and you don’t want to do ANYTHING, then you’ll need at least $1000.
AI Voice Over
With the rise of AI, and the increasing quality of AI voice-overs lately, I decided to give it a try for my new channel.
To be honest, I didn’t expect much of it, HOWEVER….
Surprisingly enough, I was actually able to monetize, BUT the revenue is low. Very low:
This is the revenue after being monetized for 2 weeks. Not good.
Horrible quality & comments
If you listen to the videos, it’s just terrible. I don’t like it.
I was trying to save money by doing the scripts myself, and by using AI voice overs (via ElevenLabs.io).
Surprisingly I did get some views and managed to get 1000 subscribers and enough views to monetize. No idea how it’s possible, but it’s true.
Some viewers even took the time to put some negative comments about the terrible voice over… but the funny thing is…
YouTube sees activity on the video and pushes it forward 🙂 So whether it’s a good or bad comment, it doesn’t even matter.
Importance of SEO
I’ve hired an SEO guy to upload and edit every video for me. He takes care of SEO, tags, descriptions etc..
This must be the reason why I’m still getting views.
If I check my VidIQ SEO addon for the uploaded videos, it’s looking really good:
You might think “meh, 53.2/100 is not very good”.
Let me copy/paste VidIQ’s explanaition:
The vidIQ score takes into account a ton of different stats to determine the likelihood that of your video surfacing in YouTube Search, Related Videos, and the Front Page. We look at total amount of engagements (across YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, Facebook), velocity of that post, and views.
Anytime you see a number next to a video tag on YouTube (once you have vidIQ installed) that’s your keyword score. As a general rule of thumb, you want to be looking at a score of 50, or above.
I know I’m paying money for this, but it’s definitely worth it — because I’m getting views.
Switch to real voice over
I want to try something else. Because at this point I’m paying a lot of money for my videos, without getting enough in return.
So I’ve hired a real voice over artist (VOA) and my next few videos will be published with a real voice over.
I’m curious. Very curious.
See the amount of likes vs dislikes? There are quite a few dislikes…. not good.
So with this VOA change… will my amount of views — and revenue — go up?
I’ll let you know soon! 🙂
